The mission of the Orange County Department of Consumer Affairs is to promote an atmosphere of trust for consumers in the marketplace and in which honest Orange County based businesses can thrive.  To provide Orange County Consumers assistance and advice in handling problems encountered with the business community and if necessary within applicable laws penalize those businesses that would take advantage of consumers by illegal or deceptive trade practices.

The Department accomplishes this through implementation and enforcement of:

#1) Orange County Consumer Protection Law (Local Law #6 of 1988) pertaining to prohibited unfair trade practices.

#2) Article 16 and 1NYCRR of the New York State Agriculture and Markets Law Pertaining to Weights & Measures.
