14 Mile Linear Trail from Goshen to Harriman

Access Points/Parking – Chester Depot Museum, Village of Chester; St. James Place, Village of Goshen: Park and Ride Lot B, Village of Monroe.
Please Note: Access to the Heritage Trail in Harriman adjacent to the Superior Packaging warehouse is prohibited. The County is constructing an easement and parking that will access the trail at that point in the near future. Until then, please do not trespass on what is private property. Thank you.

The first multi-use asphalt trail developed in the parks system. This trail offers attractive scenic vistas and access from the Village of Goshen to Harriman for walking, biking and rollerblading.

Please Note: The use of Segway units on the Heritage Trail is strictly prohibited as they are considered motorized vehicles. If anyone witnesses Segway use on the trail, they are encouraged to call the OC Sheriff’s Department at 845-291-7929 to report the incident.

The Heritage Trail is a 10-foot wide trail on the right-of-way of the former Erie Railroad. When completed, the trail will extend from the City of Middletown to the Village of Harriman. The trail features sections of both asphalt and limestone surface. The current 14 mile trail winds through a bird/wildlife sanctuary, historic landmarks, murmuring streams, rolling meadows and friendly communities. Trail users may enjoy biking, walking, rollerblading, nature study as well as shopping and dining in the local villages. Access points are in Monroe, Chester and Goshen, all with convenient parking.

Please follow trail etiquette, which means moving to the right to let faster travelers pass safely. Bicyclist should warn walkers when passing and pass on the left whenever possible. It is highly recommended that proper safety equipment be worn by bicyclist and roller bladers.

All groups using the trail must provide liability insurance in the amount of $1,000,000 naming the County of Orange and the municipalities the trail travels through as additional insured. This is a condition of the permit approval process. The municipalities are as follows: Town and Village of Goshen, Town and Village of Chester, Town of Blooming Grove, Town and Village of Monroe. Each municipal Police Chief must be notified at least 10 days in advance of the event and expected attendance.
