The process of obtaining eligibility and service authorization from the NYS Office for People with Developmental Disabilities (OPWDD) can be difficult, confusing and take a long time. Then comes the wait for staff. Providers do not have staff waiting to be assigned. Many people authorized for community supports (community habilitation and respite) remain unserved or under-served. The system is simply not meeting the growing demand for these important services.
The Orange County Community Support Initiative (OCCSI) is designed to strengthen our ability to monitor need and deliver quality services. Through this collaborative partnership, we are committed to implementing substantial, system-wide operational changes to improve the overall experiences of individuals and their families.
Three Over-Arching Goals of the Initiative
Reduce the Number of Unserved & Under-Served By Managing the Need As a System
Deliver Quality Services Matched to Complexity & Acuity With Rates of Pay Tied to Skill
Build Capacity Required to Meet the Demand
When you choose the OCCSI, you connect with a diverse network of providers working together in collaboration with Orange County Government toward these outcomes.
