Municipal Junior Police Academy Programs

Throughout Orange County, municipal Police Departments are offering Junior Police Academy (JPA) programs to youth within the community. Participants develop qualities of becoming a good citizen while learning aspects of a career in law enforcement. Municipalities that offer the JPA Program include:

Educational Programs

Orange Ulster BOCES encourages High School students to pursue law enforcement/security through their Career & Technical Education Security Careers Academy

At the college level, SUNY Orange has a Criminal Justice Department  that offers two distinct criminal justice programs:
Associate in Science (A.S) in Criminal Justice
Associate in Applied Science (A.A.S.) in Criminal Justice/Police
A certificate program is also available for those who intend to pursue Law Enforcement/Security but not complete a degree. 

Higher education opportunities within Orange County include pursuing a Bachelor of Arts in Criminology at Mount Saint Mary College. In addition to your core Criminology classes, you’ll also get to choose from one of four Criminology concentrations: General Criminology, Criminal Justice, Juvenile Justice and Restorative Justice.
A degree in Criminology doesn't just include criminal justice. It looks at crime from a holistic perspective, considering its impact on the victim, the offender, and society as a whole.
