Who We Are

The Orange County Office of Assigned Counsel (OAC) was created via funding provided by the New York State Office of Indigent Legal Services (NYS ILS). We are located at One Railroad Avenue, Suite 2-2, Goshen, New York 10924.

Our Mission Statement

The OAC was created in response to the County of Orange’s duty to provide legal representation to indigent persons in Orange County’s Appellate, Criminal, and Family Courts. These services are mandated under Article 18-B of the County Law.  Our mission is to improve the efficiency and quality of indigent legal representation by managing, supporting and training the Orange County Assigned Counsel Panel.  The OAC is committed to supporting Panel Attorneys in zealously advocating on behalf of their clients and meeting the quality standards of the program.

Objectives

The OAC is dedicated to providing high quality legal representation to individuals in Orange County who are unable to afford counsel in various Criminal and Family Court matters. Likewise, the OAC's objectives are to expand and develop resources and training programs to aid Panel Attorneys in their representation of indigent clients.

The OAC acts as a liaison and advocate for Panel Attorneys in all interactions with the judicial system. Providing information and assistance required to meet and exceed state and county goals for effective legal representation.
