IMMIGRATION-CRIMINAL & FAMILY COURT CONSEQUENCES

Panel Attorneys should ask EACH AND EVERY CLIENT where he or she was born.

If the answer is not in the United States, Panel Attorney should contact the Hudson Valley Regional Immigration Assistance Center (“RIAC”), ideally at time of arraignment or assignment in a criminal or family court matter.

The Orange County Office of Assigned Counsel has a  partnership with Hudson Valley RIAC to help aid panel attorneys in cases with potential immigration law consequences.  Hudson Valley RIAC will provide immigration law support and resources to the Panel Attorneys (and their clients) at no charge.

The resolution of a case for a non-US citizen client may have immigration consequences — and it may be malpractice for a Panel Attorney not to utilize these services.  Panel Attorneys seeking assistance are encouraged to submit a Regional Immigration Assistance Intake Form (PDF) to RIAC.

If you require assistance, please contact the Hudson Valley Regional Immigration Assistance Center at (914) 286-3408.
