The District Attorney’s Office continuously seeks employment applications for the following positions.
Assistant District Attorney
The District Attorney’s Office accepts applications for assistant district attorneys at the entry-level and also seeks candidates with prior legal experience. Assistant District Attorneys are required to live in Orange County during the period of their employment. All application materials should be sent to the attention of the District Attorney, and include:
- A résumé detailing the applicant’s qualifications;
- A cover letter outlining the applicant’s interest in the position;
- Certified undergraduate and law school transcripts sent directly to the District Attorney’s Office by the institutions that the applicant attended.
Investigator
The District Attorney’s Office employs two chief criminal investigators, one senior criminal investigator, and nine criminal investigators. All investigators working in the District Attorney’s Office are police officers. See Human Resources for qualification. All application materials should be sent to the attention of the District Attorney, and include:
- A résumé detailing the applicant’s qualifications;
- A cover letter outlining the applicant’s interest in the position.
Clerical Support Personnel
Members of the support staff are hired from the established Civil Service list for each position. Those positions include legal secretary, senior clerk, account clerk, and receptionist. Individuals interested in any of those positions should make arrangements to take the next available Civil Service test through the Orange County Department of Human Resources.
Intern
A limited number of internships are available to law school and college students. Internships are unpaid, but arrangements may be made through an intern’s school to provide the intern with school credit or work-study funding. For summer internships, the District Attorney's Office must receive the prospective intern's application materials by March 1 of the year in which the internship is to be performed. Application materials for internships in other semesters may be sent at any time. All application materials must be sent to the attention of Leah Canton, Executive ADA, and must include:
- A cover letter outlining the applicant’s interest in the position;
- A résumé detailing the applicant’s qualifications.
