Household Hazardous Waste
Due to the safety precautions taken because of the COVID-19 pandemic, Orange County Hazardous Waste Events are temporarily cancelled. Any new dates will be announced in the future.
Please be advised that common hazardous waste items such as oil based paints, solvents, cleaners, and gas and gas/oil mixes, and other like items cannot be accepted at Orange County Transfer Stations nor in regular household trash.
Latex and water based paint can be dried out with cat litter and scooped into a double-bagged trash liner and disposed of into a trash receptacle at home. In the meantime, residents can bring car batteries and motor oil to County transfer stations (click here for locations) and prescription medication to the Orange County Sheriff’s Office at 110 Wells Farm Road in Goshen.
Medical sharps are not accepted at Orange County Solid Waste Management Facilities and must be brought to your local healthcare facility. Please call your local healthcare facility ahead of time to confirm.
Orange County holds four Household Hazardous Waste Events per year at four different locations throughout the County. Friday events are for Schools, Farms, Municipalities and Businesses. Registration is required and residents may not attend. Fees are charged based on the amount of household hazardous waste that is being disposed of. Per NYSDEC regulations, only 220 lbs of hazardous waste can be brought by each participant at a household hazardous waste event for schools, farms, municipalities and businesses. Please click on the link below for registration forms and dates.
Saturday events are for Orange County Residents only. No schools, farms, municipalities or businesses can attend the Resident event. Resident events are free and are intended for residential amounts of household hazardous waste only. If you have a business that is now closed, you still need to register for the Friday event. We accept residential amounts of household hazardous waste only at resident events.
