Lyme Disease

Lyme Disease

Lyme Disease is a bacterial infection from the bite of an infected Deer Tick. Not all ticks, nor even all Deer Ticks, carry Lyme Disease.

The Health Department’s Lyme Disease Prevention Program works with the public and with health care providers to reduce the incidence of Lyme Disease in Orange County. To help prevent Lyme Disease, Department staff provide educational materials and assist in the identification of ticks that potentially carry Lyme Disease. Staff also assist in appropriate referrals for Lyme Disease diagnosis and treatment.
