Under Article 41 of New York State Mental Hygiene Law, the Orange County Department of Mental Health’s Developmental Disabilities Division is responsible for the planning, coordination and governance of services to support people of all ages with developmental disabilities and their families delivered through a network of providers.

Working closely with the New York State Office for People with Developmental Disabilities’ Regional Office and providers, the Division Director manages resources available, shapes local policy and practices, promotes evidenced based practices and agency collaboration. The Division provides a wide array of services including but not limited to advocacy and mediation; information and referral; technical assistance; home and community based clinical support to families and staff; cross systems individualized service planning for those with complex needs; direct oversight of a large program serving children on the autism spectrum with challenging behaviors; groups for young adults; educational opportunities for staff, parents, caregivers and the general public.
