Goshen, N.Y. – Orange County Executive Steven M. Neuhaus is proud to recognize local first responders during National Emergency Medical Services (EMS) Week, which runs through Saturday, May 23rd.

“Our dedicated EMS agencies, both volunteer and commercial, serve Orange County with commitment and pride every day,” Neuhaus said. “We are grateful for their dedication and I think that it’s important that they are recognized for all they do to keep us safe. These men and women are ready 24/7 to provide care, which is often lifesaving, to our residents.”

EMS Week brings together local communities and medical personnel to honor the dedication of those who provide day-to-day lifesaving and medical services wherever and whenever needed. It also seeks to celebrate, unify, and inspire the men and women of emergency medical services communities across the nation. EMS Week is celebrated in partnership with EMS STRONG, an annual campaign designed to unite and inspire emergency medical services (EMS) personnel and to strengthen the profession on a national level.

Deputy Commissioner Frank Cassanite, Division of Emergency Medical Services, reminds residents that our first responders are dealing every day with the COVID-19 pandemic. He noted that a situation like this is difficult for providers of all ages and levels of experience. Since March 1st of this year, EMS agencies have responded to hundreds of calls relative to the current crisis and have handled them with courage and commitment.

“These providers understand their mission. They are here to serve those patients that need them now more than ever,” Cassanite said. “Their presence can mean so much to a loved one, a neighbor, a stranger. They will continue to do everything they can to help others and save lives.”

Neuhaus added: “On behalf of County residents, many thanks to the 21 EMS agencies in Orange County, the staff and volunteers that serve our County every day.”

The dedicated and hard-working volunteer EMS agencies of Orange County is always looking for additional help. If you are interested in becoming a volunteer, call the Orange County Division of Medical Services at 615-0400.
