District Attorney Hoovler Warns Motorists About

Drinking and Driving on New Year’s

Drunk Driving Endangers Others, and Can Be Costly

Orange County District Attorney David M. Hoovler, on Thursday, December 31, 2020, warned motorists about the consequences of drunk driving on New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day. That warning included consequences directly to those who drive drunk, but also to others on the roadways.

“Drunk driving endangers everyone on the roadways,” said District Attorney Hoovler, “and New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day are not exceptions. I urge everyone to enjoy their holiday, but to enjoy it responsibly. Drinking irresponsibly, then getting behind the wheel of a car could kill or seriously injure you or others on the roads. In addition, police will be out in force, looking for drunk drivers, and my office has a no-tolerance policy for drunk driving, year round. Finally, getting caught drunk driving will cost you financially, as much as $10,000, or more, in the costs of attorneys and fines, and the hit your insurance will take. If you drink this New Year’s Eve, call a cab, call a friend, designate a driver. Above all, don’t drink and drive. It isn’t worth it.”
