Goshen, N.Y. – Orange County Executive Steven M. Neuhaus announced that the County will host a Hazardous Waste collection event for businesses, municipalities, school districts, and farms by appointment only on Friday, July 23rd, and a Household Hazardous Waste and Operation Safe Scripts Pharmaceutical Collections for Orange County residents from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, July 24th at Thomas Bull Memorial Park in the Town of Montgomery. The address for both events is 90 Grove Street in Campbell Hall.
“These events provide an opportunity to dispose of unwanted and potentially hazardous chemicals that people often accumulate over the years in a safe, environmentally conscious way,” Neuhaus said. “I hope that residents take advantage of this cost-free opportunity to clear their homes of unnecessary and potentially dangerous products.”
“Due to safety precautions taken because of the COVID-19 pandemic, these events will be organized to ensure the safety and well-being of County residents and employees,” Neuhaus added.
The steps taken to ensure safety for all involved are as follows:
- All workers will wear a mask and proper PPE.
- Attendees are encouraged to come one person per vehicle and show their proof of residency through a closed window.
- Attendees are not to leave their vehicles unless in the case of an emergency.
- Residents shall pack their materials in the rear of their vehicles for workers to handle.
- Containers will not be returned to prevent the potential for transmission.
The July 23rd event is for businesses, schools, farms, and municipalities only and will be held at Thomas Bull Memorial Park in the Town of Montgomery, address located at 90 Grove Street in Campbell Hall. Pre-registration is required and the cost for disposal will be determined by the vendor based on the type and amount of waste to be disposed of (up to 220 pounds per vehicle). Drop-off times will be scheduled by the vendor. A registration form can be found on the County website by clicking on the “Household Hazardous Waste” tab at http://www.orangecountygov.com/efs. Registrations will be accepted until Friday, July 9th.
The July 24th event is free for Orange County residents with proof of residency (driver’s license or utility bill with Orange County address) and will also be held at Thomas Bull Memorial Park in the Town of Montgomery, address located at 90 Grove Street in Campbell Hall. The event will take place from 9 AM to 3 PM. Deputies from the County Sheriff’s Office will be on hand to collect unwanted over-the-counter and prescription medication. Businesses, schools, farms, and municipalities must register for the July 23rd event and may not attend the July 24th collection event.
