Goshen, N.Y. – Orange County Executive Steven M. Neuhaus has recognized Jim Goodrich as July’s Citizen of the Month for his continued dedication to the Village of Florida community.

“Jim has always had a vested interest in Florida and its residents,” Neuhaus said. “He has especially made an impact as a volunteer coach and has had a positive impact on thousands of young athletes and their families. Everyone knows Jim Goodrich in the tight-knit community, and everyone respects and appreciates him.”

Goodrich grew up in Warwick but has lived in Florida with his wife, Patricia, for 35 years. He has coached youth soccer, basketball, football and baseball in Florida, Warwick, and Chester. He even once volunteered to coach the S.S. Seward Institute chess team because the school did not have one. Goodrich, 63, had never played chess in his life.

Jim has also been actively involved with the Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts and Florida’s Family Fun Fest. He enjoys cooking, gardening and has organized many local horseshoe tournaments.

“Working in the community has given me joy and this recognition would not be possible without the help of so many hard-working people,” Goodrich said. “I just always tried to lead and keep things moving in a positive direction. Florida is very important to me and I’m thankful that I’ve had the opportunity to work with so many residents over the years.”

Neuhaus introduced his Citizen of the Month Award, which acknowledges outstanding Orange County residents, in January of 2017. To nominate someone for the Citizen of the Month Award, please email ceoffice@orangecountygov.com or mail a letter to “Citizen of the Month” at 255-275 Main Street Goshen, N.Y. 10924. Be sure to include the nominee’s name, hometown, a list of their accomplishments, why you are nominating them and any other pertinent information. Nominees must be from Orange County.
