Goshen, N.Y. – Orange County will host a Hazardous Waste collection event for businesses, municipalities, school districts, and farms by appointment only on Friday, October 1st and Household Hazardous Waste and Operation Safe Scripts Pharmaceutical Collections for Orange County residents from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 2nd at Orange County Transfer Station #1 (OCTS #1) in New Hampton. The address for both events is 21 Training Center Lane in Hampton with the entrance to the site located across from the Mid-Hudson Psychiatric Center on State Route 17M.
“These events provide an opportunity to dispose of unwanted and potentially hazardous chemicals that people often accumulate over the years in a safe, environmentally conscious way,” Neuhaus said. “I hope that residents take advantage of this cost-free opportunity to clear their homes of unnecessary and potentially dangerous products.”
“Due to safety precautions taken because of the COVID-19 pandemic, these events will be organized to ensure the safety and well-being of County residents and employees,” Neuhaus added.
The steps taken to ensure safety for all involved are as follows:
- All workers will wear a mask and proper PPE.
- Attendees are encouraged to come one person per vehicle and show their proof of residency through a closed window.
- Attendees are not to leave their vehicles unless in the case of an emergency.
- Residents shall pack their materials in the rear of their vehicles for workers to handle.
- Containers will not be returned to prevent the potential for transmission.
The October 1st event is for businesses, schools, farms, and municipalities only and will be held at OCTS #1 Maintenance Garage at 21 Training Center Lane in New Hampton, with the entrance to the site located across from the Mid-Hudson Psych. Center on Route 17M. Pre-registration is required and the cost for disposal will be determined by the vendor based on the type and amount of waste to be disposed of (up to 220 pounds per vehicle). Drop-off times will be scheduled by the vendor. A registration form can be found on the County website by clicking on the “Household Hazardous Waste” tab at http://www.orangecountygov.com/efs.
