Goshen, N.Y. – Orange County Legislator Kathy Stegenga has been appointed as a vice-chair on the New York State Association of Counties (NYSAC) public safety committee.
“As an elected County Legislator, my primary responsibility is to represent my constituents and be a voice for the needs of my community. I’m proud to be appointed to this important NYSAC committee,” Stegenga said. “I am proactive about public safety and look forward to working with my peers throughout the State to ensure that Orange County and its residents remain safe. Led by Orange County Executive Steve Neuhaus, the County has developed comprehensive plans designed to protect our residents when an emergency occurs.”
The NYSAC public safety committee develops public safety-related policy proposals that impact county governance, addressing complex issues such as criminal justice reform and 9-1-1 fee diversion.
Stegenga, a life-long resident of Orange County, currently lives in Blooming Grove, and is in her second term as a County Legislator. The daughter of former New York State Assemblywoman Nancy Calhoun, Stegenga has been involved with a wide variety of community organizations and activities in her District and in Orange County.
“Legislator Stegenga is a thoughtful advocate for counties on matters of public safety and criminal justice,” said Martha Sauerbrey, President of NYSAC. “Serving on the Orange County Public Safety and Emergency Services Committee has given Kathy expertise and perspective that will help NYSAC advance public safety policy reform. I thank Legislator Stegenga for agreeing to serve as vice-chair of this important committee.”
