Carlos Rivera Pleads Guilty in Murder Case
Defendant Pled Guilty to All Counts of the Indictment Against Him During Jury Selection
Orange County District Attorney David M. Hoovler announced that on Monday, May 2, 2022, Carlos Rivera, 49, of Newburgh, pled guilty in Orange County Court to all of the counts of the indictment against him, including Murder in the First Degree. Rivera’s plea came during the jury selection phase of the trial against him and his co-defendant. The District Attorney’s Office will continue the prosecution of the co-defendant at trial.
The case is being prosecuted by Senior Assistant District Attorney David Byrne.
A criminal charge is merely an allegation by the police that a defendant has committed a violation of the criminal law, and it is not evidence of guilt. All defendants are presumed innocent and entitled to a fair trial, during which it will be the State of New York’s burden to prove guilt beyond a reasonable doubt.
