Goshen, N.Y. – Orange County Executive Steven M. Neuhaus participated in the Office for the Aging’s Senior Health and Fitness Day at Thomas Bull Memorial Park in Montgomery on Wednesday, June 1st.
Neuhaus was joined at the event by Orange County Undersheriff Ken T. Jones and County Clerk Kelly Eskew.
“This fun and informative event reminds our seniors, and all of us, how important it is to stay active,” Neuhaus said. “Seniors are living longer and healthier lives and Senior Health and Fitness Day celebrates that. Staying active and fit plays an important role in maintaining good health as we grow older. It was a pleasure spending some time with this vibrant group today.”
The purpose of Orange County Senior Health and Fitness Day is to encourage seniors to exercise, eat well, and have fun. Throughout the day, Healthy Orange, part of the Orange County Department of Health, conducted screenings and distributed information, while local businesses, healthcare providers, and vendors were helpful participants. The day also included healthy cooking and master gardening demonstrations, financial health information, a fitness walk, music, and other games and activities. Lunch for attendees was donated by ShopRite Supermarkets, Inc.
National Senior Health and Fitness Day takes place in May in honor of Older Americans Month. The goal of the initiative is to keep older Americans healthy and fit. It is the country’s largest annual health promotion event for older adults.
