District Attorney Hoovler Announces Rudolph Simmons to be New Chief Investigator
Rudolph Simmons to be appointed Chief Criminal Investigator for the Orange County District Attorney’s Office on January 1, 2023.
Outgoing Chief Investigator Garcia to be appointed Undersheriff
Orange County District Attorney David M. Hoovler announced on Monday, December 12, 2022, that he will be appointing Rudolph Simmons to be the Chief Criminal Investigator of the Orange County District Attorney’s Office on January 1, 2023. The current Chief Investigator, Wilfredo Garcia, is resigning that position at the end of the year to become Undersheriff. Upon his appointment, Mr. Simmons will be the ninth Chief Criminal Investigator appointed to lead the ten Criminal Investigators who work in the District Attorney’s Office.
Mr. Simmons became a Criminal Investigator in the Orange County District Attorney’s Office in March 20, 2018. Prior to that he was Senior Investigator with the New York State Police. Mr. Simmons became a member of the New York State Police in September 1988. His assignments with the New York State Police included being assigned to the Community Narcotics Enforcement Team, “CNET, and the Major Crimes Unit, where he investigated homicides and public corruption cases. Mr. Simmons was also a Union Delegate with the New York State Police Investigators Association. Mr. Simmons was also specially trained at the New York State Police to investigate Bias/Hate crimes.
District Attorney Office Criminal Investigators are police officers who work to enhance cases for litigation and investigate crimes, sometimes independently, and sometime in conjunction with other police agencies. They frequently respond and assist at homicide investigations and assist other law enforcement agencies with a diverse range of criminal investigations.
“I believe that Rudy Simmons will make an outstanding Chief Criminal Investigator,” said District Attorney Hoovler. “Rudy is universally respected by his colleagues in the District Attorney’s Office, his former colleagues at the New York State Police, and the many other law enforcement that he has worked with throughout his thirty-four-year career as a police officer.”
