[ARCHIVED] County to hold household hazardous waste, pharmaceutical collection events for safe disposal

Orange County Seal

Goshen, N.Y. – Orange County Executive Steven M. Neuhaus, Sheriff Carl E. DuBois and Deputy Commissioner of Environmental Facilities and Services Pete Hammond have announced that the County will host a Household Hazardous Waste and Operation Safe Scripts Pharmaceutical Collection for Orange County residents on Saturday, September 24 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Orange County Fire Training Center at 9 Fire Training Lane in New Hampton.

There is a separate Household Hazardous Waste event for businesses, farms, schools and municipalities on Sept. 23 in New Hampton. That event requires registration and payment for any waste disposals. Please call 291-2664 for more information.

“These programs are important and necessary because they promote a clean and healthy environment,” Neuhaus said. “This event provides a convenient opportunity for residents to dispose of hazardous household waste and expired or unwanted pharmaceuticals properly. I hope that residents take advantage of this to clear their homes of unnecessary and potentially dangerous products.”

Participation in the collection event is free for Orange County residents, although proof of residency is required at the time of disposal. The Sheriff’s Office will be on hand for Operation Safe Scripts to accept any expired or unwanted pharmaceuticals, both prescription and over-the-counter. Please note that no electronics will be accepted at this collection event.
