Goshen, N.Y. – Orange County Executive Steven M. Neuhaus and Executive Director of Human Rights Inaudy Esposito have announced that the County’s Human Rights Commission is seeking applicants for its 2018 scholarship award.

“This scholarship award is an opportunity to recognize a student who raises awareness about human rights in their school or community,” Neuhaus said. “I know that we will once again receive many impressive nominations. Our previous recipients have been leaders who have demonstrated extraordinary commitment to human rights.”

Scholarship applicants must be a high school senior or eligible for graduation in the 2018 calendar year and be considering a post-secondary education. The eligible applicant must also reside in Orange County at the time of the nomination.

“The Commission celebrates the efforts and voices of young people who foster human rights in our community,” Esposito said. “We are excited to once again be able to offer this opportunity for recognition and college assistance.”

Application forms are available from school guidance counselors, by calling the Commission office at 615-3680, and on the Human Rights Commission page on the County website at www.orangecountygov.com. The application deadline is April 11, 2018.  Completed applications can be emailed to: humanrights@orangecountygov.com, or mailed to: Orange County Human Rights Commission, 255-275 Main St., Goshen, NY 10924.

The Orange County Human Rights Commission has been presenting the scholarship since 2006. It is funded through proceeds from the Commission’s annual awards ceremony held each April. The event recognizes community members who support human rights efforts in Orange County.
