Goshen, N.Y. – Orange County Executive Steven M. Neuhaus and Katie Bonelli, Chairwoman of the Legislature, announced on Wednesday that the proposed 2024 tax rate, initially to be $2.34, will be reduced further to $2.30.
The proposed tax rate is lower than it was both last year ($2.745) and in 2014, when Neuhaus took office. It remains the lowest tax rate in Orange County since the 1960s. Neuhaus released his proposed $923,069,885 County budget for 2024 on September 26th.
“Lowering taxes remains one of my top priorities and I will continue to work with the Legislature to develop fiscally responsible budgets,” Neuhaus said. “I want to the Legislature and Chairwoman Bonelli for their collaboration and careful review of the budget.”
The proposed adjustment will be facilitated through the Legislature’s Ways and Means Committee and will be voted on by the full Legislature in December.
“County Executive Neuhaus has proposed another fiscally responsible budget and it has been a pleasure working cooperatively with him and the Legislature,” Bonelli said. “We look forward to the Legislative review process and the adoption of the 2024 Budget.”
“It has been a pleasure to work with County Executive Neuhaus on this budget, which focuses on what matters to our residents,” added Tom Faggione, Majority Leader of the Legislature. “The results clearly show that.”
