Goshen, N.Y. – Orange County Executive Steven M. Neuhaus released the following statement on Friday after Senator John J. Bonacic announced that he will not seek re-election to the New York State Senate.
Bonacic’s career in politics spanned more than four decades. He served as an Orange County Legislator, as Chairman of the County Legislature, as an Assemblyman, and finally as a Senator.
“John Bonacic is one of the most decent men that I have ever met in public service,” Neuhaus said. “I interned for him when I was in college and he was a State Assemblyman. Since then, Senator Bonacic has been a mentor to me, and I appreciate everything that he has done for Orange County and New York State. His retirement is a major loss to the residents that he proudly served. I wish Senator Bonacic and his family all my best in what is a well-deserved retirement.”
