[ARCHIVED] Neuhaus statement on Senator William Larkin’s decision to not seek re-election to the New Yor

Goshen, N.Y. – Orange County Executive Steven M. Neuhaus released the following statement on Thursday after Senator William Larkin announced that he will not seek re-election to the New York State Senate.

“Senator Larkin is a legend in the Hudson Valley,” Neuhaus said. “He will always be revered for his lifelong dedication to public service. From his days of service in the military to his tenure in the State Assembly, to his time as Senator, Mr. Larkin has worked hard for his constituents and done so with class and grace. He is a proud veteran and has been a fierce advocate for the men and women who have served our country. I consider it a privilege to call Senator Larkin a friend and mentor, and I wish him all the best in retirement.”

Larkin has spent 39 years in the New York State Legislature, serving in the Assembly from 1979-90. He was first elected to the New York State Senate in November of 1990. A veteran with 23 years of active military service, Senator Larkin retired from the United States Army in 1967 with the rank of Lieutenant Colonel.

He served in many key positions, both in the United States and overseas, and saw combat in World War II while serving in the Philippines operation, and again in the Korean War.
