[ARCHIVED] County hosting household hazardous waste, pharmaceutical collection event in Port Jervis

Orange County Seal

Goshen, N.Y. – Orange County Executive Steven M. Neuhaus, Sheriff Carl E. DuBois and Deputy Commissioner of Environmental Facilities and Services Pete Hammond have announced that the County will host Household Hazardous Waste and Operation Safe Scripts Pharmaceutical Collections for Orange County residents on June 1st and 2nd in Port Jervis.

“These events provide an opportunity to dispose of unwanted and potentially hazardous chemicals that people often accumulate over the years in a safe, environmentally conscious way,” Neuhaus said. “I hope that residents take advantage of this cost free opportunity to clear their homes of unnecessary and potentially dangerous products.”

The June 1st event is for businesses, schools, farms and municipalities only and will be held at Orange County Transfer Station No. 3 at 86 Tow Path Road in Port Jervis. Pre-registration is required and the cost for disposal will be determined by the vendor based on the type and amount of waste to be disposed of (up to 220 pounds).  Drop off times will be scheduled by the vendor.  Registrations will be accepted until Friday, May 18th.

The June 2nd event is free for Orange County residents with proof of residency (driver’s license or utility bill with Orange County address) and will be held at the lower parking lot of Port Jervis High School, which is located at 10 Route 209.  Deputies from the County Sheriff’s Office will be on hand to collect unwanted over the counter and prescription medication. Businesses, schools, farms and municipalities must register for the June 1st event and may not attend the June 2nd event collection.

If you have questions about either of these events, please call Ermin Siljkovic at 291-3246 or visit the website orangecountygov.com/efs and click on the household hazardous waste tab.
