Goshen, N.Y. – Orange County Executive Steven M. Neuhaus helped celebrate the 36th annual awards presentation and the 40th Anniversary of the Orange County Youth Bureau at Kuhl’s Highland House in Middletown on Thursday.
“I think it’s great that we take time to honor these young men and women who are making a positive impact in Orange County,” Neuhaus said. “These students are doing wonderful things in their communities and it was a privilege to be a part of the ceremony recognizing them for their efforts. My congratulations to Director Rachel Wilson and the Youth Bureau, which has done a fantastic job providing programs and services for children and families in our County for the past 40 years.”
This year, approximately 370 guests joined in the celebration of 90 honorees, which included students from Orange County, youth workers, school-based professionals, local businesses and County employees. Many of the students who received the Positive Change Leading to Success Award do not have strong support systems and have overcome many struggles for their successes.
A number of youth receiving the Spirit of Success Award have proven to be an inspiration in spite of significant physical and/or medical difficulties. Many other youth who make significant contributions in their communities received the Outstanding Citizenship/Volunteerism/Leadership Award.
Adults, business and community partners were also recognized for their many contributions to making a difference in the lives of young people and their families. The award nominations were submitted by Orange County schools, municipalities and not-for-profit community-based organizations that work with children/youth. Winners were selected by members of the Awards Committee, consisting of people who sit on the Youth Bureau's Youth Advisory Board, whose members are appointed by Neuhaus. First, second, and third place award recipients also received scholarships provided through generous donations to the Friends of the Orange County Youth Bureau fund at the Community Foundation of Orange and Sullivan.
“The Awards Luncheon is a highlight of the year for us,” Wilson said. “We are glad to take the time to recognize and celebrate these amazing young people and the adults who support them. The great teamwork between Youth Bureau staff and Advisory Board members as well as the financial support of the County and the State Office of Children and Family Services, make this wonderful event possible. We look forward to celebrating another 40 years of serving the youth and families of Orange County.”
