The New York State Department of Transportation has declared that today, Monday, June 18th is an AIR QUALITY ACTION DAY for the DOWNSTATE METROPOLITAN area. High levels of OZONE are expected in parts of the DOWNSTATE METROPOLITAN area today, June 18th.
The Downstate Metropolitan area consists of the NYS Department of Environmental Conservation Region 3 Lower Hudson Area (Dutchess, Orange, Putnam, Ulster, and Sullivan counties), Region 2 New York City Metro Area (New York City, Rockland, and Westchester counties), and Region 1 Long Island Area (Nassau and Suffolk counties).
This message is being broadcasted statewide to inform those who live and work in affected areas, and for those who are planning on traveling to the affected areas.
Air Quality Action Days are days when air quality is predicted to be in the unhealthy range for sensitive groups.
