Goshen, N.Y. – Orange County Executive Steven M. Neuhaus released the following statement upon learning that former Orange County Supreme Court Judge John K. McGuirk passed away on Thursday night. Judge McGuirk was 76.
“John McGuirk was a wonderful person and will be remembered as an Orange County legend,” Neuhaus said. “Whether it was serving as a Supreme Court Judge or in one of his many volunteer roles in our community, Judge McGuirk served residents with class, compassion and dignity. Most importantly, he never forgot where he came from, treating every person he met with the utmost respect. His loss is monumental but his legacy will endure for many years to come.”
McGuirk was elected a Supreme Court Judge in 2000 and retired in 2011. He also presided as an Orange County Family Court Judge from 1995 to 1999. McGuirk began his decorated career in 1976 serving as a U.S. Army Judge Advocate at West Point.
