Goshen, N.Y. – Orange County Executive Steven Neuhaus has announced the 2019 Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) Awards, providing more than $1 million across 18 projects, benefiting 17 municipalities. These awards will enable communities to address local needs by pursuing a variety of infrastructure, ADA accessibility and community development projects.

“The County continues to partner with municipalities to ensure they can access the most effective resources, including federal grant programs,” said County Executive Steve Neuhaus. “Through our Office of Community Development, we develop these meaningful partnerships and pursue high-impact projects that will improve the lives of Orange County residents. These CDBG grants will help committed local leaders across the County build better roads, sewer and water systems, and ensure access to public facilities for everyone.”

Added Community Development Interim Director Nicole Andersen: “I would like to thank the members of the CDBG Advisory Committee, our staff and our partners in County government for their diligence in completing this year’s project reviews. The Office of Community Development is proud to efficiently steward these federal dollars into the County as we know every dollar is vital to strengthening our local communities.”

The Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) program enables states and local governments to undertake a wide variety of activities intended to create suitable living environments and generate economic opportunities principally for people with low to moderate income. CDBG funds are allocated annually to Orange County through the federal Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) and administered by the Orange County Office of Community Development. Since its inception in 1974, the CDBG program has improved the lives of millions of Americans by addressing the development needs of communities across the United States.
