Goshen, N.Y. – Orange County’s Human Rights Commission will host its eighth annual “An Artist’s Response to Human Rights” exhibit in celebration of Universal Human Rights Month.
The exhibits can be viewed from November 30th to December 14th at the Orange Hall Gallery in Middletown and the Mindy Ross Gallery in Newburgh. Exhibit openings and receptions will be held at 1 p.m. on Dec. 2nd (Snow date: Dec. 6th) at the Orange Hall Gallery in Middletown and at 6 p.m. on December 10th (Snow date: Dec. 13th) at the Mindy Ross Gallery on SUNY Orange’s Newburgh campus.
The public is invited to attend the free events and meet the artists. Students in their junior and senior years will express themselves artistically about the importance of human rights by creating artwork related to the 30 articles of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. The Universal Declaration served as the first international recognition that all human beings have fundamental rights and freedoms. It was adopted by the General Assembly of the United Nations December 10, 1948 in Paris.
“I am pleased that the Orange County Human Rights Commission, in collaboration with SUNY Orange and the Orange County Arts Council, will provide a platform for our students to express themselves through their literary and visual artwork, while enhancing their appreciation of human rights,” said Orange County Human Rights Executive Director Inaudy Esposito. “We want to make sure their voices are heard and are looking forward to another wonderful exhibit.”
