[ARCHIVED] Neuhaus presents City of Newburgh $5,000 check to help support Junior Police Cadet Academy

Goshen, N.Y. – Orange County Executive Steven M. Neuhaus presented the City of Newburgh Police Department with a $5,000 check on Thursday, January 3rd to support its Junior Police Cadet Academy program.

Neuhaus was joined at the event by Orange County District Attorney David Hoovler, Legislator Kevindaryan Lujan, City of Newburgh Police Chief Doug Solomon, Newburgh Mayor Torrance Harvey and acting Newburgh City Manager Joe Donat.

“Newburgh’s Junior Police Cadet Academy brings together youth in the community and gives them a better appreciation of law enforcement,” Neuhaus said. “It also enhances relations between Chief Solomon’s department, the students and City residents. Now more than ever, our community needs to extend our support to law enforcement, and this program gives the participants a greater appreciation of the work that these men and women perform every day.”

The City of Newburgh Junior Police Cadet Academy program is designed for students who are interested in a career in law enforcement and provides training in the field. Cadets participate in a variety of activities and assignments, including community service opportunities, educational programs, and competitions, all while gaining real-world experience through the observation of officers. They also listen to lectures relevant to a career in law enforcement which are given by police officials and the Orange County District Attorney’s Office.

“The City of Newburgh greatly appreciates the generosity of the County,” Donat said. “Through the assistance from the County Executive, we will be able to continue to offer the youth of the City the priceless opportunity of participating the in the Cadet Program. Together, in collaboration with the County and the law enforcement community, we are able to help our young neighbors explore a career in law enforcement and instill in them a greater appreciation for the amazing work that the Newburgh Police Department conducts day after day.”
