Goshen, N.Y. - Orange County Executive Steven M. Neuhaus announced on Wednesday that Dan Bloomer has been named the County’s Director of Operations.
Bloomer’s first day as Director of Operations was on Wednesday, February 13th. His responsibilities as Director of Operations will include working directly with Neuhaus and his administration on the County budget, examining all departments for potential cost savings and efficiencies, and scrutinizing all spending requests.
“Dan Bloomer is a seasoned manager who is very familiar with Orange County government and its operations,” Neuhaus said. “He has a track record of working effectively for taxpayers and accomplishing things in an efficient manner. I know that Dan will be successful in this role and an asset to the taxpayers of Orange County.”
Bloomer, a Newburgh resident, worked for Orange County government from 1979 to 2001. He held several key positions, including Commissioner of Finance, Budget Director, Human Resources Commissioner, Director of Risk Management Department of Public Works Commissioner (acting) and Commissioner of Social Services (acting). Bloomer also worked in County Executive Mary McPhillips’ office from 1990-93.
Bloomer left County government in 2001 to become SUNY Orange’s Vice President for Finance and Administration. He held that position for eight years, before retiring.
“I’m honored to return to County government,” Bloomer said. “It is humbling to be able to serve the residents of Orange County in this position and it’s exciting to join County Executive Neuhaus’ talented team. I’m eager to get started.”
