District Attorney Hoovler Announces Charges 

in Murder Case

Newburgh Man Charged with Murder for Fatal Shooting of Robbery Victim

 Multiple Defendants Charged with Robbery, Weapons Possession and

Conspiracy to Commit Gun-Point Robberies

Orange County District Attorney David M. Hoovler announced that on Monday, March 25, 2019, Dominique Williams, 22, of Newburgh, was arraigned before Orange County Court Judge William L. DeProspo, on an Indictment charging him with felonies including Murder in the Second Degree, Robbery in the First Degree, Attempted Robbery in the First Degree, Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Second Degree and Conspiracy in the Fourth Degree.  Dominique Williams is charged with having killed a Newburgh man during the course of a botched robbery alleged to have occurred on November 3, 2018, in the vicinity of Liberty Street and Clinton Street, in the City of Newburgh.  Dominique Williams is alleged to have fatally shot the man with a .32 caliber pistol during the attempted robbery.  Dominique Williams was arraigned with his twin brother, Devin Williams, 22, also of Newburgh, and both are charged with having been part of a conspiracy to commit gun-point robberies and possess weapons.  The indictment charges Devin Williams with crimes including Robbery in the First Degree, Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Second Degree and Conspiracy in the Fourth Degree.  Both Dominique Williams and Devin Williams are charged with committing a gun-point robbery on November 1, 2018, in the vicinity of 16 Liberty Street in Newburgh. In addition to the Williams brothers, others are alleged to have been part of the conspiracy to commit robberies and possess weapons.

In addition to investigating the crimes alleged in the Indictment, the City of Newburgh Police Department and the Orange County District Attorney’s Office are also investigating two shootings which occurred shortly after the man who was the victim of the attempted robbery was fatally shot.  Shortly after that shooting occurred, a man who had been with Dominique Williams was fatally shot in the vicinity of 319 Liberty Street in Newburgh.  Dominique Williams is believed to have been shot in the arm during the same incident. Anyone with information concerning either fatal shooting is asked to contact the city of Newburgh Police Department.   

Bail was set for Dominique Williams in the amount of one million dollars cash or two million dollars bond.  Bail was set for Devin Williams in the amount of $100,000 cash or $200,000 bond.  The brothers are next scheduled to appear in court on April 10, 2019 in connection with the charges.

District Attorney Hoovler thanked the City of Newburgh Police Department for their investigation and the arrest of the defendants.

 “My deepest condolences go out to the families of the victims of these shootings,” said District Attorney David Hoovler.  “My office will continue to work closely with the City of Newburgh Police Department, whose police officers perform heroic work every day to protect us from gun violence. Those who use guns to commit robberies, or settle disputes, deserve lengthy prison sentences. I urge all who have information concerning these events to contact the City of Newburgh Police Department so that together we can end the violence that is plaguing Newburgh.”

“I appreciate the hard work of the City of Newburgh Detective Division and the Orange County District Attorney’s Office Investigators in successfully bringing the arrests that have been made is this case so far,” said City of Newburgh Police Chief Doug Solomon. “I send my deepest condolences to the families affected by these incidents.”

The case is being prosecuted by Chief Assistant District Attorney Christopher Borek and Executive Assistant District Attorney Leah Canton.

This criminal charge is merely an allegation that a defendant has committed a violation of the criminal law, and it is not evidence of guilt. All defendants are presumed innocent and entitled to a fair trial, during which it will be the State of New York’s burden to prove guilt beyond a reasonable doubt.
