[ARCHIVED] Valley View celebrates National Skilled Nursing Care Week

Goshen, N.Y. – Orange County’s Valley View Center for Nursing Care and Rehabilitation is celebrating National Skilled Nursing Care Week, which runs from May 13-17th, with a variety of activities and events.

Established by the American Health Care Association (AHCA) in 1967, National Skilled Nursing Care Week, formerly known as National Nursing Home Week, recognizes the role of skilled nursing care centers in administering to America’s senior citizens and individuals with disabilities.

“Honoring the dedicated employees at Valley View and the residents they serve is a wonderful way to highlight the week,” Orange County Executive Steven M. Neuhaus said. “I’m proud of the Valley View staff and commend them for the quality of life and extraordinary care that they provide our residents.”

Valley View kicked off Skilled Nursing Care Week with opening ceremonies on Monday, May 13th in the facility’s Town Center. Valley View honored seven of its employees who are celebrating service anniversaries, including Building Maintenance Mechanic Al Towers, who has been with the County for 40 years. 

Also being recognized for 30 years of service MDS Coordinator Jackie Sherlock and Building Service Worker Richard Williams.  Employees recognized for 25 years of service include Building Maintenance Mechanic Ed Sierra, Activity Specialist Debbie Manzo, Certified Nursing Assistant Angelica Rodriguez and Janeita Wallace-Searchwell, a Certified Nursing Assistant.

Valley View will host other events during the week, including a sip and paint program, karaoke and cocktails, a cookie decorating contest and a social hour on Friday, May 17th to conclude the festivities.

“Skilled Nursing Care Week helps us honor and celebrate our residents and our dedicated staff members,” said Valley View administrator Laurence LaDue. “It’s a great week of fun filled activities that our residents and staff participate in together. There’s nothing better than seeing the residents smile and enjoying the special activities we have planned for the week.”
