District Attorney Hoovler Announces Guilty Plea

In Child Sex Abuse Case

Man Pleads Guilty to Course of Sexual Conduct Against a Child in the First Degree for Repeatedly Subjecting a Child to Sexual Contact

Defendant to be Sentenced to Twelve Years in Prison

Orange County District Attorney David M. Hoovler announced that on Thursday, May 16, 2019, Douglas Castro, 64, of Warwick, pleaded guilty to Course of Sexual Conduct Against a Child in the First Degree, before Orange County Court Judge Robert H. Freehill. Castro admitted that between September 2012 and June 2014, he repeatedly engaged in acts of oral sexual conduct and other acts of sexual contact with a child who was less than thirteen years of age.

Pursuant to the plea agreement which was placed on the record at the time that Castro pleaded guilty, he will be sentenced to twelve years in state prison and twenty years post-release supervision when he is sentenced on August 27, 2019.  Additionally, Castro will be required to register as a sex offender.

District Attorney Hoovler thanked the Orange County Child Abuse Investigation Unit for their investigation and the arrest of Castro.

“Children are the most innocent of victims,” said District Attorney David Hoovler. “We can only hope that there are no long-lasting physical effects which will be suffered by the victim in this case.  My Office will continue to work with all our law enforcement partners in protecting children and will continue to seek severe punishment for all who commit violent crimes against defenseless infants and children.”

The case is being prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney Jessica Dovico.

This criminal charge is merely an allegation that a defendant has committed a violation of the criminal law, and it is not evidence of guilt. All defendants are presumed innocent and entitled to a fair trial, during which it will be the State of New York’s burden to prove guilt beyond a reasonable doubt.
