DISTRICT ATTORNEYS ASSOCIATION OF THE STATE OF NEW YORK SWEARS IN NEW PRESIDENT, ORANGE COUNTY DISTRICT ATTORNEY DAVID HOOVLER
July 15, 2019– Albany, New York: At their annual Summer Conference the District Attorneys Association of New York (DAASNY) installed a new President and Executive Board.
Orange County District Attorney, David Hoovler was sworn in as President of the Association.
“It is an incredible honor to serve as President of DAASNY. I will draw on the power of the collective knowledge of my colleagues from all over the State to help make sure we are maintaining a fair and efficient criminal justice system that serves all victims, witnesses and defendants. In upcoming months prosecutors, defense attorneys and our court system will be adapting to many new laws and procedures. I will advocate for adequate resources for all offices, big and small, to ensure the public safety of New York’s residents and visitors.
Achieving the successful implementation of these new laws will require flexible forward thinking and conversations within DAASNY, with our law enforcement partners, our Governor, our Legislature and many others,” said President Hoovler.
President Hoovler was sworn in after prior President, Albany County District Attorney P. David Soares completed his term. “David Hoovler is an incredibly valuable member of DAASNY and during my presidency he consistently supported me with precious guidance and encouragement. I remain ready to serve and support President Hoovler in return. He is a hard working prosecutor and is faithfully dedicated to our profession and to fellow prosecutors,” said DA Soares.
Also sworn in were President-Elect, Monroe County District Attorney Sandra Doorley; First Vice President, Washington County District Attorney J. Anthony Jordan; Second Vice President, Nassau County District Attorney, Madeline Singas; and Third Vice President, Erie County District Attorney John Flynn.

The New York Prosecutors Training Institute (NYPTI) presented three Prosecutor of the Year Awards. The winners were selected from nominations by District Attorneys across the state. DAASNY was formed in 1909 as an organization for prosecutors in the State of New York to provide for the exchange of information and views with respect to the conduct of their offices, the New York State criminal justice system and the criminal law and operation.
DAASNY encourages and fosters communication, cooperation, training and consultation among and on behalf of the district attorneys and their staffs for matters concerning the prosecution of crime in New York State and improving the legal system. It is DAASNY’s collegial approach and the fostering of communication between offices both large and small, upstate and downstate, with a particular emphasis upon ethical issues facing prosecutors, that helps to ensure greater fairness, transparency and accuracy within the criminal justice system.
