Goshen, N.Y. – Orange County District Attorney David Hoovler, Sheriff Carl E. DuBois and County Clerk Annie Rabbitt participated in National Night Out festivities in the cities of Middletown and Port Jervis, the Town of Wallkill and Town of Mount Hope on Tuesday night, August 6th.

“I look forward to National Night Out each year, as is always a wonderful, community-building event,” Hoovler said. “My Office’s annual participation in National Night Out provides another avenue for us to reach out to residents. Together, we can address potential problems that lead to crimes in our communities, and develop ways to fight them.”

National Night Out, which began in 1984, is an annual campaign that promotes police-community partnerships to bring communities together and help make them safer. It is designed to raise drug and crime prevention awareness, generate support for anti-crime efforts, strengthen community spirit and send a strong message to criminals that the community won’t tolerate crime. Millions of residents participate in National Night Out events in the U.S. on the first Tuesday in August. Communities host block parties, festivals, parades, cookouts and various other events with safety demonstrations, seminars, youth events, visits from emergency personnel and exhibits.

“Communication between the Sheriff’s Office and the public has always been one of my top priorities,” DuBois said. “National Night Out helps my office reinforce to residents that their eyes and ears are part of the solution when it comes to reducing crime,” DuBois said. “It also gives the public a chance to meet members of law enforcement, ask questions, become more aware and better educated, and familiarize themselves with their local agencies.”

Added Rabbitt: “Coming from a family with many members who have dedicated their lives to law enforcement, I appreciate the importance of National Night Out. It provided a wonderful opportunity for engagements and interaction between the public and the police agencies that protect and serve us every day.”
