Goshen, N.Y. – Orange County Executive Steven M. Neuhaus, Economic Development Director Bill Fioravanti and Commissioner of General Services and Information Technology Jim Burpoe announced on Monday that the County is partnering with Open Hub to host the inaugural Hudson Valley Tech Festival on October 11th and 12th in Newburgh.
The event will be held at SUNY Orange’s Kaplan Center on October 11th, located at One Washington Center. Mount Saint Mary College will host the event on October 12th.
“This innovative seminar will utilize growing regional technology, which has spurred economic development, to strengthen the professional relationships among a very diverse group,” Neuhaus said. “The Hudson Valley Tech Festival will benefit employers, educators, professionals, recent graduates, and current students. Our goal is to showcase local technology, businesses and talents to facilitate job creation. I commend Jim Burpoe and Bill Fioravanti for collaborating with Open Hub to develop and plan this innovative event.”
The first day of the “Tech Fest” will include a variety of speakers, panel sessions and brief, informative presentations. Day two will be more interactive and feature workshops, exhibits, and a Hackathon, which is an event in which computer programmers, graphic designers, interface designers, project managers, and others, collaborate intensively on software development projects.
Sessions will also cover the latest developments in technology such as open data, cloud, cybersecurity and web development. The event will highlight industries and technological activities relevant to the Hudson Valley, including education, civic tech, and creative services, bringing together tech professionals, entrepreneurs, government and community leaders to discuss strategies for technology oriented economic development in the Hudson Valley.
Open Hub is a technology resource center in the Hudson Valley. It provides support to a growing network of talented techies in the region who are inspired to work together through collaboration, sharing resources, knowledge and opportunities. Yulia Ovchinnikova, President and Founder of Open Hub, holds a Master’s degree in Computer Science and Applied Mathematics, as well as a PhD in Economics.
“The "regional" tech market is burgeoning and ripe for a gathering such as the festival,” Ovchinnikova said. “I'm happy to see that Orange County and its surrounding communities are experiencing a surge of activity in the tech industry and this event provides a wonderful opportunity to promote that growth. I’m excited and grateful to collaborate with County Executive Neuhaus and Commissioner Burpoe on the Hudson Valley Tech Festival.”
