Goshen, N.Y. – The New York State Association of Counties (NYSAC) will present Orange County Executive Steven M. Neuhaus with its Executive Director Award for Public Service at its Fall Seminar at Resorts World Catskills in Monticello next week.

Neuhaus will be honored by NYSAC at a luncheon at Resorts World on Tuesday, September 17th.  The Award for Public Service recognizes leaders who make outstanding contributions to County governments in New York State. NYSAC Executive Director Stephen J. Acquario said that Neuhaus was selected for his commitment and service to both Orange County and our country.

Neuhaus serves in the U.S. Navy Reserves as a Lieutenant Commander, assigned to a Naval Special Operations Team. He was deployed on active duty orders from November of last year until late-June, serving with the Combined Joint Special Operations Task Force. Neuhaus spent the majority of his deployment in various locations throughout Iraq in Support of Operation Inherent Resolve, the U.S. Military Campaign against ISIS.

“Public service comes in many ways and County Executive Neuhaus has demonstrated that in Orange County and while serving our country abroad,” Acquario said. “Time and again County Executive Neuhaus has demonstrated his commitment to the residents of Orange County. He is well-liked and respected by his peers in New York State, earning a reputation for his hard work and his hands-on approach to getting things done. County Executive Neuhaus has made Orange County a leader in economic development and tourism, while strengthening the County’s infrastructure. We look forward to honoring County Executive Neuhaus and showing our appreciation for all of his efforts.”

Neuhaus is Orange County’s sixth County Executive since the office was established in 1970. As County Executive, Neuhaus has focused on revitalizing Orange County’s economic development, enhancing its public health and safety, while improving its infrastructure and stabilizing its budget.

A life-long Orange County resident and the son of immigrants, Neuhaus was sworn into office on January 1, 2014 after having served as the Town of Chester’s Supervisor for six years. He was re-elected for a second four-year term as County Executive in November of 2017.

“I’m humbled to receive this award from NYSAC,” Neuhaus said. “It’s been a pleasure working with Executive Director Steve Acquario and his staff. I consider NYSAC a partner and look forward to continuing to work with Steve and NYSAC on initiatives that will benefit Orange County’s taxpayers. I appreciate the recognition and look forward to the lunch on Tuesday.”

NYSAC was established by County officials in 1925. Its mission is to represent, educate and advocate for New York's counties and the thousands of elected and appointed county officials who serve the public. NYSAC is governed by a non-partisan 15-member Board of Directors, composed of county officials representing New York's 12 Judicial Districts.
