Goshen, N.Y. – Orange County Executive Steven M. Neuhaus and Veterans Service Agency Director Christian Farrell hosted two free showings of the new, highly-acclaimed movie “Midway” on Tuesday, November 12th at Flagship Premium Cinemas in Monroe.
The County coordinated the event with Flagship Premium Cinemas, ShopRite Supermarkets, Inc., Town of Monroe Supervisor Tony Cardone and the Monroe Town Board. Orange County Legislator Pete Tuohy also attended the movie showings.
“The timing was perfect with Veterans Day being observed the day before the screening,” Neuhaus said. “We had a great turnout for both showings and our veterans, and their guests enjoyed themselves, which was gratifying to all of us. The event provided our local veterans an opportunity to spend some time with their peers and fellow service members. I want to thank everyone who collaborated to organize what was a wonderful day.”
“Midway,” which stars Aaron Eckhart, Woody Harrelson, Dennis Quaid and Mandy Moore, tells the story of U.S. Navy sailors and aviators who persevered through the Battle of Midway, a turning point in the Pacific Theater of World War II. The Battle of Midway took place between June 4th and 7th, 1942, just six months after Japan’s attack on Pearl Harbor.
The Japanese lost approximately 3,057 soldiers, four carriers, one cruiser, and hundreds of aircraft, while the United States lost approximately 362 soldiers, one carrier, one destroyer, and 144 aircraft during the battle. The film is based on real-life events and was released on Friday, November 8th, three days before Veteran’s Day.
Approximately 350 veterans attended the two showings of “Midway” at Flagship Premium Cinemas in Monroe.
