Two Prosecutors to Join District Attorney’s Staff, Bringing
Nearly Sixty Years of Collective Experience

Orange County District Attorney David M. Hoovler announced the hiring of two new assistant district attorneys, experienced prosecutors who have left the district attorney’s offices in other counties to join District Attorney Hoovler’s staff. Both will begin working in the District Attorney’s Office on Monday, January 13, 2020.

Edward Saslaw has been an attorney in government service for more than forty years. A graduate of Elmira College and New York Law School, Ed has worked as a trial, investigative, appellate, and administrative attorney for various state and county agencies, including the New York State Division of Criminal Justice Services, the New York State Office of the Attorney General, and the Westchester County District Attorney’s Office. Most recently, Ed worked in the Queens County District Attorney’s Office from 2006 until December 2019, primarily as Counsel to the Legal Affairs Division. Ed also serves as the secretary of the District Attorney’s Association of the State of New York, as well as the chief legislative secretary for that organization. Ed will be joining the District Attorney’s Appeals Bureau.

Richard Moran joins District Attorney Hoovler’s staff after nearly seventeen years in the Rockland County District Attorney’s Office. A graduate of St. Thomas Aquinas College and the Pace University School of Law, Rich is an experienced trial and investigative prosecutor, who has, among other things, headed the Rockland County District Attorney’s Gang Prosecution Unit, Major Crimes Unit, Special Investigations Unit, and Public Corruption Task Force. Rich will be handling major cases in the District Attorney’s Office.

“I am proud to welcome Ed Saslaw and Rich Moran to my legal staff,” said District Attorney Hoovler. “We are seeing major changes in the criminal justice system, and the addition of experienced attorneys to the office will help us very much in dealing with those changes. My existing staff is already working very hard in that respect, but the addition of Ed and Rich will make it much easier for us to negotiate the criminal justice landscape ahead of us.”
