[ARCHIVED] Orange County to host free movie as part of “Think Differently” on Feb. 25th at Paramount Theatre

Think Differently event

Goshen, N.Y. – Orange County Executive Steven M. Neuhaus has announced the County, in partnership with the Orange County Think Differently Committee and the CFOS – Friends of Older Adults fund, will host a free movie event featuring the film “The Peanut Butter Falcon” at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, February 25th at the Paramount Theatre in Middletown.

Doors will open at 1:00 p.m.  The movie screening is being offered to celebrate the launch of Orange County’s “Think Differently” initiative, modeled after the program in neighboring Dutchess County.

“I’m excited to partner with the community to promote programs that are inclusive of all individuals, regardless of the challenges they might face, and look forward to seeing it implemented here in Orange County,” Neuhaus said. “We can all contribute, and we all have something to add to our communities. Sometimes, it’s just a matter of being encouraged to think a little differently.”

Neuhaus thanked City of Middletown Mayor Joe DeStefano for waving the facility fee to utilize the Paramount for the event. The heartwarming movie depicts the unlikely friendship that develops between Zak, a young man with Down syndrome who runs away from a nursing home to chase his dream of becoming a professional wrestler, and Tyler, a small-time outlaw on the run. Together they wind through deltas, elude capture, drink whiskey, find God, catch fish, and convince Eleanor, a kind nursing home employee with a story of her own, to join them on their journey.

The Paramount Theatre in Middletown is ADA compliant and fully accessible to all. The event will provide an opportunity for Orange County residents of all abilities an opportunity to spend time with friends and neighbors in a relaxed and supportive environment.

Neuhaus created the Think Differently Committee here in Orange County to invite residents to embrace a new attitude when it comes to those who are differently-abled.

To register to attend the movie, please call 845-615-3700 or e-mail Karen at KAlben@orangecountygov.com.
