 Topic: Employment & Benefits for Individuals with Disabilities

Employment is the principal source of essential psychological needs as time structure, social contact, collective purpose, social identity/status, and activity and the ability to meet these needs correlates strongly with the individual's well-being.

Guest Speaker: Regina Shoen, NYCPS, FPA-P is a Statewide Advocacy Specialist II with the New York State Office of Mental Health, Office of Consumer Affairs in Albany, New York. She has worked as a Peer Specialist, a Peer Advocate, a Peer Supportive Case Manager, and a Certified Benefits & Work Incentives Practitioner over the course of her 20+ year career.

Regina has worked as a subject matter expert to assist the Academy of Peer Services to update and develop their training modules surrounding benefits and work incentives so those becoming certified as Peer Specialists in New York state and elsewhere have at least a basic knowledge of Social Security benefits and work incentives and can better support those they work with in returning to work without losing the benefits that have helped them reach a point where they are able to return to their field of choice.

Regina is passionate about training agencies, individuals and family members on the intricacies of Social Security benefits, work incentives and broadband affordability and accessibility in New York state, as it helps improve the lives of hundreds of thousands of individuals and ensures community integration and financial independence.
